Dear FourPlay list,
So anyway, as I was saying...
Well, you probably thought we were dead, didn't you? Or *I* was dead, or
perhaps *this list* was dead. Or maybe you idly thought, now and then, that
maybe you'd been dropped off this list.
Fear not! FourPlay do still love you. We haven't given up on you because you
never write - no, indeed, you are better correspondents than we are! We
apologise.
First of all, URGENT SYDNEY NEWS. If you get this email TODAY, Tuesday the
11th of January, there's been a last-minute booking for FBi Radio in Sydney
(sorry for short notice - only confirmed this yesterday):
Listen in to FBi on 94.5FM from 8pm-10pm to hear a FourPlay special on the
Bridge Sydney Retrospective. A 2hr retrospective on FourPlay, in which Tim
and Peter (the two founding members no less) talk about the band's history,
the huge number of session recordings they've done for other bands, and so
on, playing tracks from across the band's history, including unheard
unreleased stuff, rare stuff, and more well-known tracks.
I will leave the gig news for another email, because within the week we'll
have confirmed a number more shows. Already confirmed are Cronulla, Bulli
(near Wollongong), and Adelaide (all start of February), Cockatoo Island
Festival in Sydney (March), Melbourne and Adelaide in April... and more.
Many of these gigs can be found on the new FourPlay website! Did I mention
new FourPlay website? Very pretty, lots of info, and more to come! Check out
the nifty gig calendar on the front page, check out the commenting
capabilities, pictures page, members page...
Oh. Members. Yes, there's more big news. If you came to our gigs at the
Peats Ridge or Woodford Folk Festivals (sorry for not letting you know,
inner turmoil etc), you will have seen us playing with our shiny new member!
Veren has left for other things, and been replaced by Brisbane's own stunt
violinist and now viola-player, Shenzo Gregorio (aka Shenton Gregory)! A
massively-talented player, Shenzo brings with him insane swing solos,
general virtuosity and an immediate instinctive understanding of the
FourPlay sound.
Look out for all these new gigs with Shenzo - I will email full details
within a week, including more gigs for Sydney, but for the moment you can
still check the website. We have also been airing a huge amount of new
repertoire - a few covers (Radiohead, Miles Davis, Charles Mingus etc) and a
whole lot of new originals (songs, gypsy/klezmer tunes, post-rock
slide-guitar madness, etc - you know how it is).
Hope you are all well and can catch us playing in the next few months!
Love Peter and FourPlay
